incalculable benefits to be derived from the occupa-

tion of these points.

1st. This colony has so rapidly increased that

very little more space is available for building pur-

poses, and all the sea frontare facing the Farbour

(which is a magnificient one is already occupied.

Increasing Trade would render the small Fay betweer

the two points of the Cowloon shore a great accommoda-

tion for mercantile houses and stores, The rental or

sale of "hich would be a source of Revenue to the

Crowm.

2nd. The Squadron in these seas will T presume

never be left reduced in number as it has been for an

increasing Trade will require an.increased Naval Force

and if new Ports are opened, including those of Japan,

ships of war will have to lie in each, with reliefs

ready for change of station to keep the health of the

Crews. This alone will oblige our Naval Fstablish-

ments to be enlarged and increased. At present our

space is not only limited but deficient for the Pro-

visions of the Navy will in the course of a few days

be shipped on board the "Princess Charlotte" which ship
